The short answer

What is CBD content writing?

CBD content writing is writing web pages, product descriptions and articles for CBD and hemp brands that rank in search and stay within FDA and FTC rules on health claims. It covers keyword research, the writing itself, claim review and linking each product to its lab report.

What good CBD content does

  • Ranks for searches buyers actually make
  • Describes products with facts a buyer can check
  • Links every product to its current lab report
  • Keeps disease and body-effect claims off the page
  • Stays accurate when the law changes

Why CBD brands lean on content

Paid ads are tightly restricted

  • Google AdsRestricted
  • Meta adsRestricted
  • Organic searchOpen

Google Ads allows only topical, hemp-derived CBD products with 0.3% THC or less, only in California, Colorado and Puerto Rico, after LegitScript and Google's own CBD certification. Meta allows CBD ads only in the US, with LegitScript certification and Meta's written permission, and never with health claims.

So search does more of the work

  • Product pagesBuy
  • Category pagesCompare
  • ArticlesLearn

Search runs on pages: product pages, category pages and the articles that answer buyers' questions. Each one has to be worth ranking.

And those pages face a higher bar

  • Google ratersYMYL
  • FDA and FTCRead it too

Google's Search Quality Rater Guidelines treat health topics as "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) pages, where raters look hard for accuracy and trust. Regulators read the same pages as marketing.

Claim review is part of the writing, not a step after it.

CBD copywriting has to rank, sell and hold up to an FDA or FTC reading at the same time, so every piece is checked against the claim rules before you see it.

What we write

What we write

Six kinds of page, all for your own website. Each one starts from a search people make and ends with a claim review.

  1. 01

    Product descriptions

What's in the product, how strong it is per serving, how it's made and tested, and how to use it. Each description links the current batch's certificate of analysis (COA) and says nothing about what CBD does to the body. Sold in batches of 10 SKUs, or as part of a retainer.

  2. 02

    Category and collection pages

Often the pages that earn the most from search, and the ones most CBD stores leave thin. We write the introduction, buying guidance that helps someone choose between products, short FAQs and the internal links that send readers to your best sellers.

  3. 03

    Blog posts and buying guides

Keyword-led articles that answer the question in the first paragraph, cite their sources and link to the products they mention. Topics come from what your buyers search, such as how CBD is tested, how to read a lab report or what full-spectrum means.

  4. 04

    Education and FAQ pages

What CBD is, how your products are tested, how to read a COA, and shipping and legality explainers. Legal pages carry the date they were checked, because hemp rules change.

  5. 05

    Content refresh and pruning

Updating pages that have gone stale, merging thin posts that compete with each other, and removing claims that slipped in years ago. The federal hemp change, scheduled to take effect in late 2026, will put many "Is it legal?" pages out of date. An update to an existing page counts as one piece.

  6. 06

    Brand and About pages

Your founder's story, where your hemp comes from and how you test. These are the pages buyers, and Google's quality raters, read when they decide whether to trust you.

Writing guest articles for other sites is part of CBD backlinks. Town and store pages for shops are part of CBD local SEO. We write the words; template, speed and crawl problems are a job for CBD technical SEO.

Claim review

How we keep every claim within the rules

These are the rules every draft is checked against before it reaches you. Every piece is reviewed by Archana Kala, our Head of Content.

No disease claims

We don't write that CBD treats, cures or prevents any disease. Under FDA rules, that wording makes a product an unapproved drug. The FDA has approved one CBD drug, Epidiolex, and keeps sending warning letters to firms that market CBD with disease claims.

No claims about what CBD does to the body

Supplement brands can use "structure/function" wording such as "supports joint health". The FDA has concluded that CBD products are excluded from the dietary supplement definition, so that route isn't open to CBD. We describe the product (what's in it, how it's made, how it's tested and how to use it), not what it does to the body.

Evidence for every objective claim

The FTC requires competent and reliable scientific evidence for health claims, and in December 2020 it took action against six CBD sellers over disease claims (Operation CBDeceit). If a page says "third-party tested" or "lab-verified potency", we check there's a document behind it.

Honest reviews and "best of" posts

We don't write reviews or testimonials. The FTC's rule on consumer reviews, in force since October 2024, bans fake reviews and bans presenting a site you control as an independent reviewer. If your blog runs a "best CBD gummies" post that includes your own products, it says so plainly. Independent lists on other sites are a job for cannabis listicles.

Lab reports and adult audiences

No federal rule requires a COA link in web copy. We link the current batch COA from every product page we write anyway, because buyers check, and the FDA's own tests found CBD products whose labels didn't match the lab results. Nothing we write is aimed at people under 21.

Law changes, US and UK

Section 781 of Public Law 119-37, scheduled to take effect in late 2026, measures hemp by total THC, including THCA, and caps finished hemp products at 0.4 mg of total THC and similar cannabinoids per container. We flag product pages that could fall outside the new definition. For UK brands we also check that food products are on the FSA's public list and that nothing breaks the ASA's rules on medical claims.

What changes in review

Four examples of wording we change, and what replaces it. Examples, not real clients' pages.

Example rewrites · Your brand

Examples
  1. BeforeThis balm eases joint pain and inflammation.

After500 mg of CBD in a 2 oz balm, made with menthol. Apply to skin as needed. Lab report for this batch.

Disease claim removed · COA linked

  2. BeforeClinically proven to work in 15 minutes.

AfterEvery batch is tested by an independent lab for potency and contaminants. The results are on the lab report.

Unsupported claim replaced with what was tested

  3. BeforeThe best CBD for dogs with arthritis.

AfterCBD oil for dogs, 5 mg per 1 ml, in a bacon-flavoured base. Ask your vet before giving it to your dog.

Condition removed · vet line added

  4. Before"Cured my insomnia in a week!" (a customer review on the product page)

AfterRemoved. A review that claims a cure counts as your own claim, and we don't write or edit reviews.

    Disease claim removed

This is a careful review, not legal advice. We aren't lawyers, so we work alongside your legal adviser and flag anything they should look at.

Process

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Keyword and page map

We look at what your buyers search, what your competitors rank for and which of your pages already rank, then agree with you which pieces to write first.

  2. Step 2

    A brief for every piece

Each piece gets a one-page brief: the search it targets, what the page must include, what it must not say and where it links. You approve the brief before anyone writes.

  3. Step 3

    Writing

The first draft arrives within 5 business days of brief approval. We may use AI tools for research and outlines. Every piece is written and edited by a person and checked against the claim rules before you see it.

  4. Step 4

    Claim review and edit

Every piece is reviewed by Archana Kala, our Head of Content. You get the draft with claim changes marked and lab report links checked, and two revision rounds.

  5. Step 5

    Upload and refresh

On retainers we format each piece and upload it to Shopify or WordPress with its internal links. One-off pieces arrive as a document. We keep a list of pages to recheck when rules or rankings change.

FAQ

Questions CBD brands ask about content

Still have a question?

Ask Khushboo →
What is CBD content writing?

CBD content writing is writing web pages, product descriptions and articles for CBD and hemp brands that rank in search and stay within FDA and FTC rules on health claims. It covers keyword research, the writing, a claim review and a link from each product to its lab report.

How much does CBD content writing cost?

Retainers are $1,800 a month for 4 pieces, $3,400 for 8 and $6,400 for 16: $450, $425 and $400 a piece. Pay annually on a retainer and save 10%. Product descriptions are $900 per batch of 10 SKUs, and a single piece without a retainer is $550. That's more per word than general writing marketplaces charge, because every piece includes the brief, keyword research, claim review, COA links and internal links.

Can our product pages say CBD helps with sleep, pain or anxiety?

No. Saying CBD treats, cures or prevents a condition makes it an unapproved drug claim under FDA rules, and the FTC needs scientific evidence for any health claim. Softer supplement-style wording such as "supports restful sleep" isn't a safe route either, because the FDA has concluded CBD products are excluded from the dietary supplement definition. We write what the product is, how strong it is, how it's tested and how to use it.

Do you link lab reports (COAs)?

Yes, from every product page we write. We link the current batch's certificate of analysis so buyers can check potency and contaminant results. No federal rule requires a COA link in web copy, but buyers look for it, and the FDA's own tests found CBD products whose labels didn't match the lab results.

How long does a piece take, and how many revisions do we get?

The first draft arrives within 5 business days of you approving the brief. Every piece includes two revision rounds. On a retainer, we then format the piece and upload it to Shopify or WordPress with its internal links.

Who writes and reviews the content?

Our content team writes every draft. Every piece is reviewed by Archana Kala, our Head of Content, before it reaches you. The review covers the claim rules on this page, the brief and the lab reports the piece links to. Then it's your turn: nothing goes live until you approve it.

Do you write for hemp-derived THC, kratom or vape brands?

Yes, where the product is legal. The same claim rules apply, plus age limits and the rules of each state you sell in. With the federal hemp change scheduled to take effect in late 2026, we check your range against the new definition before we write about it. The free audit shows what we'd write for your range. For vape brands, see vape SEO.

Do you use AI to write?

We may use AI tools for research and outlines. Every piece is written and edited by a person and checked against the claim rules before you see it. Google's spam policies treat mass-produced pages that add nothing for readers as spam, whatever tool made them, and an invented health claim is a legal risk however it was written.

Is the content written for AI search as well as Google?

Yes. We write every piece to answer its question in the first lines, with facts a reader can check, which is the kind of passage AI answers quote. Tracking where your brand appears in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI answers is a separate service: see AI search visibility.

Will you update our existing pages when the hemp law changes?

Yes. Section 781 of Public Law 119-37 is scheduled to take effect in late 2026 and changes how hemp is measured. Any page that says what's legal, what's in your range or how much THC a product contains may need an update. We list those pages for you, and each update counts as one piece on a retainer.

What's the difference between this and your SEO plans?

Our full SEO plans include content pages every month, plus links, technical work and reporting. This service is for brands that only want the writing, or that want more pieces than their plan includes. Starter and Growth clients buy extra pieces at the rates on this page. Compare the full SEO plans.

Who owns the content?

You do, once it's paid for. You can edit it, republish it or keep using it if you stop working with us.
