The short answer

What is kratom SEO?

Kratom SEO is the work that gets a kratom, kava or botanical brand's products, shop or bar found in Google when ads and most mainstream platforms won't take kratom. It covers product and category pages, lab reports, claim-free copy, age gates and local search, all inside FDA, FTC and state rules.

Why kratom SEO is different from regular ecommerce SEO

A homeware brand can run Shopping ads, take card payments through any processor and describe its products however it likes. A kratom brand can't do any of that.

  • Ads are closed

    • Google Ads Closed
    • Meta Closed

Google Ads and Meta block kratom under their drug and unapproved-substance rules.

  • Payments and marketplaces are thin

    • Shopify Payments Won't process
    • Amazon Not sold

Shopify Payments won't process kratom, and most mainstream processors won't either. Kratom products aren't sold on Amazon.

  • Claims put your store at risk

    • FDA No health claims

The FDA says kratom is not lawfully marketed as a drug, a dietary supplement or a food additive. Any health or use claim puts your store at risk.

  • Every state is different

    • Rules Set by state and city

States, counties and cities ban or regulate kratom differently, and some set age limits.

  • Google wants more trust

    • Google Higher bar

Google treats much of a kratom site as "Your Money or Your Life" content. It wants more proof of trust than it asks of a candle shop.

  • Kava and other botanicals

    • Platform bans Fewer
    • Claim rules The same

Kava and other botanicals face fewer platform bans, but the same claim rules. We apply them to every product.

We don't market 7-OH

We don't market 7-OH or other concentrated alkaloid products. Federal and state action against them has moved fast, and selling them puts the rest of your catalog at risk.

In July 2026 the DEA said it plans to place 7-OH above a set level in Schedule I. As of 7 October 2026 that order hasn't been issued.

Who it's for

Who kratom SEO is for

  • Online kratom brands

Direct-to-consumer stores selling powder, capsules, extracts and shots.

  • Kava and botanical brands

Kava root, kava drinks and other botanicals sold online, with the same claim rules applied.

  • Kratom shops and smoke shops

Where kratom is a main line and nearby buyers search "kratom near me".

  • Kratom and kava bars

Local search for "kava bar near me" and "kratom bar near me". No ranking competitor serves bars properly.

  • Wholesalers and private-label brands

Pages that have to work for retailers as well as shoppers.

  • Brands leaving a platform

Moving off Shopify or rebuilding after a shutdown, without losing the rankings you've built.

Kratom sits in the same grey niche as CBD. Ads are closed, payment options are thin and one wrong word on a product page can cost you your processor. We've spent years keeping CBD stores safe in search, and the same work carries straight over to kratom, kava and botanicals.

This isn't the right page if you are

  • Selling 7-OH or concentrated alkaloid products.

    We don't take this work.

  • Selling where kratom or your botanical is banned.

We check your states and cities in the audit.

  • Looking for paid ads or ad workarounds.

    We don't run them.

Why search

Why kratom brands depend on search

Ads are closed to you

Google Ads and Meta block kratom ads under their Unapproved substances, Dangerous products and drug policies (Meta advertising standards).

Some agencies will sell you a way around that: cloaking, bridge pages, replacement ad accounts, coded wording. We don't. A banned ad account or a flagged domain costs more than the traffic was ever worth.

Amazon, Shopify and payments

Kratom products aren't sold on Amazon. Shopify will host a kratom store, but Shopify Payments won't process the sales, so you need a high-risk payment provider. Most mainstream payment processors won't take kratom either. High-risk processors will take you at higher fees, and stores in this category also get shut down with little warning. Email and SMS platforms have their own limits. Klaviyo's rules don't allow kratom text messages, and Mailchimp gives herbal supplement senders extra review.

Each of those is an SEO problem as well. A forced move between platforms can wipe out your rankings if the URLs and redirects aren't planned first.

Google Shopping is closed too

Your products won't appear in Google Shopping. Google's Shopping rules exclude herbal psychoactive products (Shopping ads policies). Your own product and category pages carry the load.

Rules and trust

What the rules mean for your kratom SEO

The federal position

The FDA says kratom is not lawfully marketed in the US as a drug, a dietary supplement or a food additive (FDA and Kratom). It has sent warning letters to sellers whose websites made health claims.

In July 2025 the FDA recommended that certain 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine) products be scheduled as controlled substances. In July 2026 the DEA gave notice that it plans to place 7-OH above a set level in Schedule I (Federal Register notice). As of 7 October 2026 that order hasn't been issued. Three synthetic 7-OH compounds were placed in Schedule I on 26 August 2026.

The FDA and DEA say natural kratom leaf with only trace 7-OH isn't the target (FDA on 7-OH products). The DEA's proposed limit would still cover leaf with more than 0.05% 7-OH by dry weight.

We aren't lawyers. This section is a summary to help you plan your pages, and your legal adviser has the final word.

State and local rules

Some states ban kratom outright, and several more have done so in 2026. Others have Kratom Consumer Protection Acts that set age limits, labelling and testing rules, and some regulate 7-OH separately. Some cities ban kratom where the state doesn't: in 2026, Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cle Elum and Othello in Washington, and Idaho Falls in Idaho.

The table starts from LAPPA's summary of state laws (January 2026) and adds the changes since, from state sites and news reports.

What we write, and what we don't

We start from the Global Kratom Coalition's marketing guidelines and go further. We leave out effect wording entirely, and we apply the same rules to kava and other botanicals.

Don't writeWrite instead
"Kratom for pain", "for anxiety", "for sleep"Product facts: format, origin, vein, batch and lab results
"Kava to relax" or "to unwind"Origin, variety, preparation and lab results
Dosage adviceServing size and directions exactly as printed on the label, with a link to the COA
"Safe", "natural alternative to..."Testing and sourcing facts
"Discomfort", "a calm mind" or any other euphemism for a health claimNothing. A euphemism is still a claim.

Trust signals Google and buyers look for

Google holds kratom sites to a higher bar of trust. These are the signals we build into your pages:

  • A current COA on every product page.
  • Your AKA GMP Qualified Vendor listing, if you have it (an independent audit, renewed every year).
  • Sourcing details: origin, vein and batch.
  • A named author on every guide.
  • Clear age and returns policies.

No ranking agency page ties these to how Google judges trust. We build them in from the first week.

What's included

What's included in kratom SEO

These are the ten areas we work on for kratom, kava and botanical brands.

  1. Product and category page SEO

Pages by format (powder, capsules, extract, shots, gummies) and by vein or strain, so "kratom capsules" and "red vein kratom" land on pages built for them. Titles and copy with no claims. Google's product rich results exclude herbal psychoactive products, so we don't rely on them for kratom. We use structured data only where Google allows it, such as breadcrumbs and organization details.

Product page checklist · Your store

    Checklist
    • Format and size: powder, capsules, extract or shots
    • Origin, vein and batch number
    • A current COA that matches the batch
    • Serving size and directions as printed on the label
    • No health, effect or use wording, and no euphemisms
    • Age limit and returns policy linked
    • Breadcrumb and organization markup
  2. Merging strain pages that compete with each other

Kratom catalogs often have a dozen near-identical pages for one strain in different sizes or formats. Google can't tell which one to rank, so none of them ranks well. We merge them into one strong page and redirect the rest.

    1. Before Up to 6 pages per strain Each size and format has its own near-identical page, and Google can't tell which to rank.
    2. Merge Redirects mapped Sizes and formats become options on one page, and every old URL redirects to it.
    3. After One page per strain /kratom/red-bali/ collects the links and rankings the group used to split.
How a merge works. The audit shows which of your pages are competing.
  3. Copy checked against FDA, FTC and state rules

The do/don't table above, applied to every product page, category page, guide and review reply. A careful review, not legal advice.

  4. Lab report (COA) pages

A current COA for every product and batch, linked from its page and readable by Google. Buyers look for lab results before they buy, and so do payment processors.

  5. Age gates that don't block Google

Your age gate has to stop a 17-year-old. It doesn't have to stop Googlebot. We build it as an overlay on top of the full page, so the content stays readable to Google, and set it to the age limit your state requires. That's 18 in some states and 21 in most. Google also recommends letting its crawler skip a mandatory age gate (Google's guidance).

  6. Local SEO for kratom shops and kratom or kava bars

We set up your Google Business Profile, keep products, prices and offers out of it, and build a page for each location. There's no kratom or kava category, so we choose one that honestly describes your business. Then we run a weekly 49-point map scan for searches like "kratom near me" and "kava bar near me". We check local bans before we target a town.

  7. Platform moves without losing rankings

Moving off Shopify, rebuilding after a shutdown or changing platforms by choice. We map every old URL to its new one, set the redirects, carry over structured data and crawl the new site before launch.

  8. Links and press in a grey niche

Editorial links from publishers that accept kratom and kava brands, and local press for shops and bars. Never paid links on unrelated sites. For publisher links, see editorial link building.

  9. AI answers

ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews answer "is kratom legal" and "best kratom capsules" from pages like yours. We check every month what they say about your brand.

  10. Order and call tracking

Organic orders and revenue through GA4, and calls and direction requests from your Business Profile for shops and bars. You see what search earns you, alongside where you rank.

Our rules

What we won't do, even if a competitor does

Some tactics bring quick traffic and then a warning letter or a shutdown. We don't use them:

  • Health, effect, benefit or dosage claims, or euphemisms for them.
  • "Wellness supplement" or "FDA-compliant" positioning.
  • Marketing 7-OH or concentrated alkaloid products.
  • Paid ads, paid social, retargeting or any ad-policy workaround.
  • Age gates that show Google different content from your visitors.
  • Paid links or guest posts on unrelated sites.
  • Fake or paid reviews, or review requests sent only to happy customers.
  • Copied state or city pages.
  • Promises of leads, revenue or rankings. Nobody controls those.

Process

How it works

  1. Week 1

    Audit

Rankings and indexing first. Then the claims check, COA coverage and the age gate, plus the state and local rules that apply to you. For shops and bars, the map scan.

  2. Weeks 2–4

    Fix the foundation

We rewrite claims, link COAs, fix the age gate and merge competing strain pages. You approve every copy change first.

  3. Weeks 3–6

    Pages

Category and product pages rebuilt by format and vein. Location pages for shops and bars.

  4. Month 2 onwards

    Growth

New category pages where the audit shows gaps, editorial links, AI answer checks and weekly ranking checks.

  5. Every 90 days

    Review with Khushboo

What moved, what didn't and what's next. Monthly for groups with 11 or more locations.

What we need from you: access to your platform and analytics, your current COAs and product list, and a person who can approve copy changes within a few days.

Example

What happens when twelve pages stop fighting over one search

How the work usually runs. An illustration, not a real client, so no brand name or results.

Example strain page merge · Your store

Example, not a real client
Starting point
  • 180 product pages.
  • 12 groups of near-identical strain pages, each group splitting the same search between up to six pages.
  • 46 pages with effect wording.
  • 71 products with no COA linked.
What we did
  • Merged each group into one page per strain, with sizes and formats as options on that page.
  • Redirected the old pages to the merged ones.
  • Rewrote every page without claims.
  • Linked a current COA to each product.
  • Rebuilt the category pages by format and vein.
What typically changes
One page per strain collects the links and rankings the group used to split, so it climbs. The claims and COA fixes remove the main reasons a processor or regulator would look twice.
Every catalog is different. The audit shows which of your pages are competing.

FAQ

Questions kratom sellers ask

Still have a question?

Ask Khushboo →
What is kratom SEO?

Kratom SEO is the work that gets a kratom, kava or botanical brand's products, shop or bar found in Google when ads and most mainstream platforms won't take kratom. It covers product and category pages, lab reports, claim-free copy, age gates and local search, all inside FDA, FTC and state rules.

Can I advertise kratom on Google or Meta?

No. Both block kratom ads under their drug and unapproved-substance rules. Kava ads face fewer limits, but the same claim rules apply. That's why search matters more for you, and why we don't sell ad workarounds.

Can I sell kratom on Amazon or Shopify?

Kratom products aren't sold on Amazon. Shopify will host a kratom store, but Shopify Payments won't process it, so you'll need a high-risk payment provider. If you're moving platforms, plan the redirects first.

Can my products appear in Google Shopping?

No. Google's Shopping ads and free listings exclude herbal psychoactive products, so your own product and category pages carry the load.

What can I say about kratom or kava on my product pages?

Product facts: format, origin, vein or variety, batch, serving size as printed on the label, and lab results. Nothing about effects or what it helps with, and no euphemisms for them. We start from the Global Kratom Coalition's marketing guidelines, go further, and apply the same rules to kava.

Do I need a COA on every product page?

You should have one. Buyers look for lab results before they buy, payment processors ask for them, and Google holds kratom sites to a higher bar of trust. We link a current COA from every product page.

Will an age gate hurt my SEO?

Only if it's built as a redirect or a blocking screen. An overlay on top of the full page keeps the content readable to Google while the visitor still confirms their age. Google also recommends letting its crawler skip a mandatory age gate.

Is kratom legal in my state?

It depends on your state, and sometimes your city or county. Our state table is dated and sourced, last checked 7 October 2026, but it isn't legal advice. Check with your legal adviser before you sell or ship.

Do you work with 7-OH brands?

No. Federal and state action against 7-OH products has moved fast, and marketing them puts the rest of a catalog at risk. In July 2026 the DEA said it plans to place 7-OH above a set level in Schedule I. As of 7 October 2026 that order hasn't been issued. We work with botanical kratom, kava and other botanicals only.

Can a kratom shop or kava bar have a Google Business Profile?

Yes, if it's a legal business with a storefront where it serves customers. There's no kratom or kava category, so we choose one that honestly describes the business. Products, prices and offers stay out of the profile.

Do you guarantee rankings?

No. Nobody controls Google, and in a grey niche the rules can change without warning. We commit in writing to the work we control: a claims check of every page, a COA on every product, weekly ranking checks and a monthly report with organic revenue.

How much does kratom SEO cost?

From $2,500 a month for an online brand, and $1,800 a month for a single shop or bar. $1,400 per location for 2 to 10 locations, and from $1,100 per location for 11 or more. No setup fee, and 10% off for annual payment.

Do I need a long contract, and what do you need from us?

No. We ask for 90 days to fix the site, then it's month-to-month with 30 days' notice. We need platform and analytics access, your current COAs and product list, and a person who can approve copy changes within a few days.
